3 Tips for Creating Goals That Work
Start With The End in Mind: Many times we just think about what we want to happen and not necessarily what it may take to get there. Here's a perfect example, who doesn't want more money? Many times we create a goal of making more money, or saving money or investing money without looking at what it could take to get there. Start with an end in mind. I want to make $100,000 in a year. I know that a year has 365 days, but I also know that I don't want to work holidays and I would like a couple weekends off so instead of diving my $100,000 by 365, I may divide I by 300 and I would know that I need to make about $334 every WORKING DAY to hit my goal. This not only puts everything in perspective but it makes it feel real and attainable!
Know Your Limits: Some people prefer to walk to work and some people wouldn't be caught dead walking. Some people eat meat every day and some people couldn't imagine killing an animal for our own personal gain. Take some time to really get to know you. What do you like, what can't you live without, what one person, place or thing really gets you going? There's this really awesome concept of alignment and many times we create goals that are out of alignment with who we are and what we really desire. When that becomes the case, it makes us do this thing called self sabotage. We know that it can't work, so we act like we never wanted it in the first place. We could eliminate all of this by finding ourselves FIRST!
There's No Such Thing as a Loss: No matter the situation, you have the ability to learn from it. I know that it sounds cliché but at the end of the day, it's true. I'm a firm believer that everything in life happens for a reason and that it all comes together for the greater good in the end. We have been conditioned to always want to win and to always be right, however those losses teach us lessons that we needed to know in order to be able to succeed. How else would you have learned those lessons if you didn't try and fail? Think about some of your greatest wins, I'm sure that they came after a loss. Next time you feel like you've lost, or fell a little short, take a moment to reflect and see what you could have learned from that situation. I guarantee you that it will change your overall perspective on the situation.
